Exxonmobil Low Carbon Solutions Teams Up With The Steel Giant Nucor Corporation For Its Latest Carbon Capture And Storage Agreement

ExxonMobil, in its latest effort to reduce emissions, has tagged a team with Nucor and will be capturing, transporting, and storing around 800,000 metric tons of CO2 each year from the steel giant's production facility in Convent, Louisiana. The location manufactures the direct reduced iron (DRI), the feedstock used for producing high-quality steel products like appliances, automobiles, and heavy equipment.

This is the third carbon capture agreement initiated by the company in the course of the last seven months, one of which was with Linde and CF Industries, a gas company and agricultural fertilizer maker, respectively.

This is a major turning point as the total CO2 arranged for transport and storage to third-party customers’ accounts for an annual 5 million metric tons. This is the same as substituting around 2 million gasoline-run automobiles with EVs (electric vehicles) which is approximately the same as EVs present on the roads of the United States at the moment.

The arrangement between the two companies is a recent display of how the firm is dedicated to its goal of accomplishing the net zero process and forming an effective business. Their growth is accelerating as clients realize their capacity to resolve challenges related to emissions on a large scale.

The project with Nucor is anticipated to launch in 2026 and will link with the same CO2 transport and storage infrastructure which was used during the project with CF Industries and helps Louisiana's 2050 goals of hitting net-zero CO2 emissions.

The company is concentrating on creating and putting to use its emissions solutions for the economy's energy-intensive sectors, such as steel.

According to the Procurement Resource article, ExxonMobil has followed suit after its previous emission-reducing efforts and has presently teamed up with Nucor, a steel giant, to reduce, transport and store the CO2 emissions produced by their manufacturing site.

The company is focused on achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and is making waves in the sectors by forming alliances with other companies with the same goals.
