The German automotive sector marked a drop of around 3.5%, resulting in a fall of around 1.5% in the industrial production rate in the month of June when compared to May. The recession was worse than predicted, resulting in rising concerns. The people are worried that the automotive manufacturing units might shrink, which would lead to another such recession later this year.
The construction domain is also experiencing a decline of around 2.8%, which impacted the overall production, affecting the country’s statistics reports. The country has just come up from a downturn in the April-to-June period, as the GDP was flat compared to the previous quarter. Expert economists predict even though; the country managed to overcome the recession during April-June, it won’t last long. They also predict a recession to show up later this year.
The German car industry, which marks around 5% of the country’s total economy, is experiencing a tough time after the pandemic. It manufactured around 2.2 million cars in the first half of the year, which is higher than in 2022 but still 10% lower than the numbers recorded in the first half of 2019. However, the German energy sector is showing brighter sides, making a slight growth in the global market.
Besides the positive outlook in some sectors, the German market is still struggling. With a drop of around 14.5% in the sales rate in China during the first quarter, Germany’s automotive is losing the competition from its biggest competitor, i.e., China. The key reason is stated to be the rise in energy costs, which peaked during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and decreased to 44% below the regular levels before the war. The predictions based on the overall situation state that Germany is on the verge of facing a recession very soon in the coming days.
According to Procurement Resource, the German automotive sector is witnessing a decline in the global market, with a decrease in its production rate and an increase in energy prices. With a downfall in its construction sector along with a few more domains, the country is expected to experience another recession very soon, later this year, after experiencing a downturn during the April-June period.
