This report presents a detailed cost analysis of 11-aminoundecanoic acid production from castor oil through a process involving four separate reactions. In this process, firstly, castor oil reacts with methyl alcohol in the transesterification reaction to form methyl ricinoleat (an ester). Secondly, pyrolysis of methylricinoleate is carried out at 450-500 degree centigrade to produce heptanal and methyl undecenoate.

Thirdly, hydrolysis of the methyl undecenoate produced to form 10-undecenoic acid takes place. Fourthly, the 10-undecenoic acid produced undergoes hydrobromination in the presence of peroxides to obtain 11-bromoundecanoic acid, which is further converted to 11-aminoundecanoic acid using the bromine exchange method, thus, finally producing 11-aminoundecanoic acid.
