The method involves the use of hexachlorocyclopentadiene and cyclopentadiene as the main starting materials for the synthesis of chlordane as the product. The process is initiated by Diels–Alder addition of hexachlorocyclopentadiene and cyclopentadiene to produce non-chiral chlordene. Further, the chlordene obtained undergoes chlorination, which results in the formation of chlordane as the final product.
