This report provides a thorough cost evaluation of the production of copper from copper sulfide ore via pyrometallurgy. The process involves mining, transporting and crushing the ores into fine sand, then making a slurry of the crushed ore by adding a liquid, which is then subjected to a process of froth floatation separating the undesirable gangue from the copper. The copper-rich froth is further taken into the thickeners, which are large tanks making the solid from the froth settle, filtering the copper and mixing other metals. The concentrate is then sent for smelting, where the ore is further purified at high temperatures. The molten copper matte produced is then sent to a converter and then to an anode smelter where molten anode copper is made and is further cooled to form anode slabs which are finally refined using electrolysis, giving pure copper plated cathodes at the end of the process.
