This report provides an extensive cost evaluation of DMF (Dimethylformamide) production by direct synthesis. This procedure involves continuous process of reacting N,N-dimethylamine with pure carbon monoxide gas stream by using solution of sodium methoxide in the presence of methanol as a catalyst. Further, the mixture is passed over a heat exchanger to ensure thorough mixing of the compounds and removal of excess heat produced. Then, the reaction mixture is passed through decompression chamber, followed by combustion which facilitates removal of inert and off-gases. The final product with 99.9% purity is obtained after preliminary distillation, followed by second distillation in a separate column.
