This report proffers a comprehensive cost evaluation of DOP or Dioctyl phthalate production from phthalic anhydride and isooctyl alcohol. The process involves the reaction of Phthalic Anhydride with Isooctyl Alcohol in the presence of catalysts such as titanate at 190 to minus 235 degrees Celsius, followed by cooling with alcohol at 95 to 100 °C. The reaction completion is followed by neutralizing the catalyst and the unreacted phthalic anhydride with an alkaline solution, led by washing the product formed after layering with water to collect alcohol. The obtained DOP is decolorized using an active carbon followed by filtration using a filter press to give pure Dioctyl phthalate or DOP finally.
