This report proffers the thorough economics of ethyl pentanoate production from crude glycerol. It is a complex chemical process where the crude glycerol serves as the raw material to produce ethyl pentanoate or ethyl valerate as the resultant product. Initially, crude glycerol undergoes fermentation to give propionic acid under controlled conditions. The mixture of propionic acid is then subjected to a chain elongation reaction in the presence of ethanol, which acts as an electron donor. The intermediate products are further processed to extract valerate, concentrate the mixture, and process it through membrane electrolysis for acidification. The resultant is further treated through liquid-liquid extraction in a hydrophobic medium, esterification, and distillation to attain ethyl pentanoate as the final product.
