Hot Rolled Steel Coils Production Process from Steel Slabs

This report contains a comprehensive cost evaluation of hot-rolled coils from the steel slabs. The most basic carbon steel slabs are heated at a temperature of approximately 2300 F, where heat directly affects the properties of steel. During the heating process, the material reacts with atmospheric oxygen and forms a flaky surface of iron oxides.

To remove this layer the material undergoes a mill-scale cleansing process. The cleansed material is passed through rolling mills to produce thin sheets and the ends are sheared to make transfer bars. The flat-rolled sheets are cooled by cooling sprays and then transferred to coilers. After coiling, the hot-rolled coils are ready.
