This report presents a comprehensive cost evaluation of the production of HPMA (Hydroxypropyl Methacrylate) from DL-1-amino-2-propanol and methacryloyl chloride. The process involves mixing DL-1-amino-2-propanol with sodium hydroxide and water with continuous stirring, followed by the slow dropwise addition of methacryloyl chloride. Once the temperature reaches room temperature, the mixture is analyzed. After the completion of the reaction, liquid extraction using toluene is carried out to remove the by-products, followed by drying with magnesium sulfate and filtering, followed by solvent evaporation. Finally, the product is recrystallized using acetone, cooled, filtered, and dried to remove acetone, giving pure crystals of HPMA.
