This report entails the detailed cost evaluation of hydroxylamine production by the Raschig Synthesis method. Raschig synthesis method is a complex chemical reaction that results in the production of hydroxylamine. The process is initiated by the Reduction of ammonium nitrate with sulfur dioxide, ammonia, and water. The reaction results in the formation of hydroxyl amido-N, N-disulfate anion. The anion obtained is further hydrolyzed in the presence of water to give hydroxylamine sulfate and ammonium bisulfate.
The resultant is again hydrolyzed in the presence of water to produce [NH3(OH)]2[SO4], along with ammonium sulfate, as the intermediate products. The intermediate obtained is further treated with liquid ammonia, while filtering ammonium sulfate from the mixture. Finally, liquid ammonia is evaporated to give solid hydroxylamine as the end product.
