This report provides a comprehensive cost evaluation of natural linerboard production from softwood trees. In this process, softwood trees, such as conifers, are firstly chopped to obtain the logs of the trees. The logs are then debarked (bark removal) followed by chopping the logs into wood chips.
The wood chips are then turned into pulp by removing the lignin from it. The pulp is formed either by mechanical methods or by chemically dissolving the lignin, which is the more common method. Upon the production of pulp, it is washed making a slurry of fibre and water.
The slurry is then sprayed to align the fibres imparting them the strength. Then the pulp is placed on a mesh fabric called wire where it is dried later forming paper. Then the paper is wrapped around small reels, which are shifted to corrugator plants, thus forming corrugated box of desired design.
