This report presents a detailed cost analysis of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) production from aniline and formaldehyde using the oxidative carbonylation process. In this process, oxidative carbonylation of aniline produces ethyl phenylcarbamate (EPC), which further reacts with formaldehyde to produce diphenylene diurethane (MDU). The MDU produced finally undergoes decomposition to form MDI with polymeric MDI (PMDI) as the by-product.
