Mild Steel Plate Production from Iron Ore

This report provides an extensive cost evaluation of Mild Steel Plate production from Iron Ore. In this process, iron ore is melted with coke and limestone in a blast furnace. The coke is reacted with the oxygen in the iron ore to produce carbon monoxide gas. The gas reduces the iron ore to molten iron. The molten steel is casted into slabs at the rolling mill and then rolled into the desired shape and thickness. The steel sheets undergo heat treatment to improve their mechanical properties. Heat treatment involves heating the steel to a high temperature and then cooling it rapidly. This process, known as quenching, produces hard, brittle steel. Finally, the steel is reheated to a lower temperature and allowed to cool slowly to produce tough and ductile steel.
