This report provides a comprehensive cost evaluation of Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) Pulp production from lumber woods. This process involves lumber wood which is firstly processed in a barking drum to remove bark from the wood. Then, the wood undergoes grinding to be deposited into a storage silo to segregate the oversized chips from the undersized ones.
Further, the chips are made to be fed into a digestor for cooking, where sodium sulfide reacts with sodium hydroxide to disintegrate lignin, which holds the wood fibres. Next, the content in the digestor is released into a blow tank under pressure to disintegrate the fibres- the pulp.
The pulp is then separated from black liquor resulting in the formation of unbleached pulp. Finally, the unbleached pulp is bleached adding chemicals depending upon the end use in bleaching plant thus completing the production of Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) Pulp.
