This report provides the cost structure of sodium alginate production from alginic acid. In this process, wet seaweed is chopped and treated with dilute formalin to form sodium alginate solution. After this, sodium carbonate is added to separate sodium alginate solution and seaweed residue. Hydrochloric acid is added to sodium alginate solution to form alginate acid and then water is removed. First, alcohol and then, sodium carbonate is added to alginic acid to produce sodium alginate. It is finally dried and milled to achieve its powdered form.
