It is a complex three-step reaction where the chromite ore is processed to produce sodium dichromate. Initially, the chromite ore is mixed with sodium carbonate and roasted under oxidizing conditions that yield sodium chromate. Sodium chromite is further leached in the presence of water to form a sodium chromate solution as an intermediate. Finally, the intermediate solution obtained after leaching is reacted with sulfuric acid and crystallized to obtain anhydrous sodium dichromate or sodium dichromate crystals as the final product.
