This report provides a comprehensive cost evaluation of stainless-steel production via electric arc furnace. This process marks initiation by loading an electric arc furnace with steel and alloying metals and heating them at elevated temperature of around 2800 °F.

The melting takes about 8-12 hours. Then, the mixture formed as a result of melting is refined and argon gas and oxygen are pumped into the furnace converting impurities to gas causing slag formation which is removed easily. Further, the refined steel is cast into slabs, which are then made to undergo the process of hot rolling forming stainless steel plate. The steel plates are processed ahead over the course of methods such as heat treatment, descaling, strengthening, polishing, and so on to render a finished stainless-steel plate.
