In the process, molten sulfur undergoes combustion in a special burner under precisely controlled air conditions. The gas that evolved in the process of combustion is collected and cooled down. The gas is then dissolved in water while crossing a sequence of towers undergoing complex dissolution processes and cooled down to remove the moisture content. In the fourth-base tower, the resultant gas is passed against the flowing sulfuric acid in the opposite direction and dried. The resultant product is then compressed into liquid form to obtain pure sulfur dioxide.
