This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of sulphuric acid production via tail gas purification using hydrogen peroxide abatement.
Last Updated: January, 2025
In this process, sulfur dioxide (SO2) is transformed into sulfuric acid (H2SO4) by exposing it to an aqueous scrubbing solution. This solution contains sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and/or peroxy acids of sulfur. The reaction takes place in a gas-liquid device with continuous liquid scrubbing. The scrubbing solution has a high acid concentration, reaching up to 99% or more by weight of H2SO4. The presence of hydrogen peroxide or peroxy acids plays a vital role in the oxidation of SO2 to H2SO4, making the process more efficient in converting harmful sulfur dioxide into sulfuric acid.
