This study presents the cost structure of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) production wherein p-xylene is used as the process feedstock through a catalytic oxidation process. P-xylene is mixed with acetic acid solvent and a catalyst solution before being processed into the oxidation reactor. In the reactor, p-xylene is oxidized to terephthalic acid, and most of the product formed is precipitated. Crude Terephthalic Acid (CTA) intermediate is sent to additional purification steps in dried form to obtain PTA as the final product.
