This report presents the economics of titanium dioxide production from Ilmenite through sulphate process. To form a mixture of sulphates, ilmenite is dissolved in sulphuric acid before the titanyl sulphate gets hydrolysed in the solution to produce insoluble, hydrated titanium dioxide. The solid is heated in a calciner to evaporate the water and decompose the sulphuric acid in the solid. It also turns the solid into seed crystals which can be grinded to achieve the desired size.
