In this process, simple technology is used. The ores used are low grade and cheap. Titanium pigment is extracted by sulphuric acid. It has higher production cost as acid treatment is more expensive. There are three stages- Dissolving the ore in sulphuric acid to form sulphates, Hydrolysing the titanyl sulphate to give insoluble hydrated titanium dioxide and finally heating the solid to evaporate water and decompose sulphuric acid.
