The intermediate is subjected to alkaline conditions with methyl iodide to form an ether intermediate. O-deprotection in acid then produces the alcohol intermediate. Subsequently, an ester compound is produced by condensation of the alcohol intermediate with carboxylic acid compound and ring-opening in acid to produce Cabazitaxel.

Cabazitaxel, commercially known as Jevtana, is a yellow to brown-yellow viscous solution, having the molecular formula C45H57NO14 and a molecular weight of 835.9 g/mol. It has a melting point of around 170 °C. It has a water solubility of 0.00413 mg/mL. Its log P value is 3.69, and the value of its dissociation constant, pKa, is 11.96. Cabazitaxel is derived from 10-deacetylbaccatin III, a substance that has been separated from yew trees. It is a second-generation semisynthetic microtubule inhibitor that functions in stabilizing microtubules and causes tumor cell death.
