DETA is a corrosive chemical that can corrode metals and decompose, emitting corrosive and toxic fumes. Its vapors are heavier than air. While it does not readily undergo combustion, it can produce toxic oxides of nitrogen when burned. It is highly soluble in water and compatible with solvents like petroleum ether and alcohol but is insoluble in ether. The chemical is miscible in methanol, benzene, and acetone.
