It is insoluble in solvents like acetone, toluene, and ethanol. It is volatile and slightly sensitive to air and heat, and requires storage under inert gas and refrigeration (0-10 degree Celsius). It has a density of around 1.2 g/cm³. It exhibits acid-base behaviour with pKa values around 2.3 for the carboxyl group and 5.6 for the amino group.
It is readily hydrolysed in basic conditions, less so in acidic media. Also, it biodegrades moderately fast in soil and water with a typical half-life ranging from days to weeks, depending on conditions.
