Lithium Iodide can change color from white to yellow upon oxidation, a process in which iodide ions (I?) are converted to elemental iodine (I2). This oxidation commonly occurs in the presence of air. The compound exists in various hydrated forms, including monohydrate, dihydrate, and trihydrate.

These forms are indicative of its ability to bind with water molecules. In some reactions, Lithium Iodide can undergo crystallization in a sodium chloride-like motif. Chemically, Lithium Iodide is reactive. It can react with bromine to form lithium bromide. In the presence of air, it undergoes oxidation, further leading to various chemical transformations.
