Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing a metconazole production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for metconazole production, including the cost of metconazole production, metconazole plant cost, metconazole production costs, and the overall metconazole production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating a metconazole production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Metconazole is a systemic triazole fungicide that disrupts ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes. It is widely applied in cereals like wheat and barley for Fusarium head blight, Septoria leaf blotch, and rusts. It is also utilised in oilseed for stem rot, rust with plant growth regulation benefits, soybeans and corn for rust, eyespot, and anthracnose. It helps to manage blast disease in rice, dollar spot, brown patch, and leaf spot in turf and grasses. It is also used in fruits like stone fruits and bushberries for foliar diseases, and is applied via foliar sprays, seed treatments, or water-dispersible granules. It is protective, curative, antisporulant, and has redistributive action with low phytotoxicity and compatibility in tank mixes.

The market for metconazole is influenced by growing global food demand. The adoption of integrated pest management in cereals, oilseeds, fruits and vegetables, and turf contributes to its market growth. The regulatory preferences for low-residue triazoles, precision agriculture enabling efficient applications, and expansion in high-value crops amid fungal resistance boost its demand. The industrial metconazole procurement is influenced by volatile raw material costs from petrochemical precursors, along with strict MRL regulations varying by region. The supply concentration among key producers, resistance management requiring rotations and mixtures, and seasonal crop cycles driving demand spikes affect its sourcing strategies. Also, competition from generic formulations post-patent expiry, and farmer economics tied to commodity prices, favouring cost-effective, high-efficacy options, impacts its market.

Raw Material for Metconazole Production

According to the metconazole production plant project report, the key raw materials used in the production of metconazole include 2,2-dimethyl-5-(4-chlorobenzyl)cyclopentanone, sodium 1,2,4-triazole, NaOH, trimethylsulfoxonium bromide, and N-methylpyrrolidone.

Production Process of Metconazole

The extensive metconazole production cost report consists of the following major industrial production process:

  1. From 2,2-dimethyl-5-(4-chlorobenzyl)cyclopentanone: The production process of metconazole involves several steps. First, the reactor is charged with 2,2-dimethyl-5-(4-chlorobenzyl)cyclopentanone, sodium 1,2,4-triazole, solid sodium hydroxide, and N-methylpyrrolidone. To this, nitrogen is passed with the addition of trimethylsulfoxonium bromide. After that, the liquid is evaporated and concentrated under reduced pressure, followed by adding water and dichloroethane to extract layers. The concentrated extract is recrystallised from methanol and dried to get pure metconazole.

Metconazole is a systemic triazole fungicide with the molecular formula C17H22ClN3O and a molecular weight of 319.83 g/mol. It features a 4-chlorobenzyl-substituted structure that stops ergosterol biosynthesis by blocking C14-demethylase in fungal cell membranes. It exists as colourless crystals with low water solubility with a melting point of 100–108.4 degree Celsius. It is chemically stable as a broad-spectrum agent effective against rusts, Fusarium, Septoria, and Alternaria. It is supplied as soluble concentrates like 90 SL formulations for foliar application on cereals, fruits, and turf. All these physical and chemical properties makes it useful as a systemic triazole fungicide.
