It is a moderately toxic liquid and can react with strong oxidizers. The compound reacts rapidly with strong oxidizers, resulting in an exothermic reaction. It is a highly flammable chemical that can be ignited easily under fire conditions.

It majorly serves as a chemical solvent in manufacturing or preparing printing and coating materials. It is a good solvent that is highly used in industries that produce color-coating chemicals.
