Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing an Octocrylene production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Octocrylene production, including the cost of Octocrylene production, Octocrylene plant cost, Octocrylene production costs, and the overall Octocrylene production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating an Octocrylene production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Octocrylene is an organic chemical UV absorber utilised in sunscreens and cosmetics. It provides broad-spectrum protection against UVB and short-wave UVA rays to prevent sunburn, skin cancer risk, and photoaging by converting UV energy into harmless heat. Its photostability stabilises other filters like avobenzone for enhanced efficacy. It is used in daily sunscreens, moisturisers, lip balms, BB creams, makeup foundations, and anti-ageing products to offer everyday UV defence and maintain formulation integrity.

It is also used in hair care items like sprays and conditioners to shield colour-treated hair from fading and brittleness. It is added in water-resistant sunscreens as an emollient for smooth application, a solvent for crystalline UV agents to improve texture, and a protective additive in colour cosmetics against degradation.

The Octocrylene market is influenced by growing demand for broad-spectrum sunscreens. The rising skin cancer awareness, outdoor recreation trends, anti-ageing skincare popularity, and climate-driven UV exposure contribute to its market growth. The North American region dominates its market because of strict SPF regulations and premium products, while the Asia-Pacific market is affected by urbanisation, along with cosmetics expansion in China and India.

The factors like environmental backlash over coral reef damage, regulatory pressures on benzophenone contamination and allergies, and volatile petrochemical raw materials impact industrial Octocrylene procurement. The need for sustainable reef-safe alternatives, diversified global suppliers, compliance certifications, etc., affects its sourcing.

Raw Material for Octocrylene Production

According to the Octocrylene production plant project report, the key raw materials used in the production of Octocrylene include 2-Ethylhexyl cyanoacetate, benzophenone, acetic acid, and ammonium acetate.

Production Process of Octocrylene

The extensive Octocrylene production cost report consists of the following major industrial production process:

  1. By Knoevenagel Condensation: The production process of Octocrylene involves Knoevenagel condensation followed by transesterification. First, 2-ethylhexyl cyanoacetate reacts with benzophenone, acetic acid, and ammonium acetate. The mixture is heated till no benzophenone is left, followed by cooling and washing. The transesterification refines ethyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate with 2-ethylhexanol using sodium carbonate, distilling ethanol with a nitrogen stream to get pure Octocrylene as the final product.

Octocrylene exists as a clear yellow viscous liquid with a mild characteristic odour. It has a molecular formula of C24H27NO2 and a molecular weight of 361.48 g/mol. It features an acrylate structure that absorbs UVB and short-wave UVA rays while providing emollient properties. It shows low water solubility but miscibility in organic solvents like methanol, ethyl acetate, hexane, and toluene. It has a density of around 1.05 g/cm³ and a refractive index of 1.57. It has vapor pressure near zero and a melting point below room temperature, with decomposition before boiling. It remains photostable, serving as a solvent for crystalline UV filters and a stabiliser for avobenzone. It exhibits neutral pH and stability under standard storage at 15-25 degree Celsius away from strong oxidants.
