Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing an Omeprazole production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Omeprazole production, including the cost of Omeprazole production, Omeprazole plant cost, Omeprazole production costs, and the overall Omeprazole production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating an Omeprazole production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Omeprazole is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of benzimidazoles and is primarily known for its medical applications. It is widely used as an oral medication for the treatment of conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also utilized as an over-the-counter medication for treating heartburn and acid reflux. Additionally, omeprazole also finds its application in the production of combination drugs, where it is formulated with other active ingredients like antibiotics for treating H. pylori infections.

The market for Omeprazole is primarily led by its demand as an oral drug for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. Its utilization as a drug in the treatment of peptic ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) largely contributes to its demand in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Its usage as an OTC medication for the treatment of acid reflux, heartburn, etc, further enhances its demand in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Its application as a component in the preparation of combination drugs also contributes to its demand in the pharmaceutical production industry.

The availability and cost of raw materials, along with disruptions in the supply of ingredients, also directly impact its production and industrial Omeprazole procurement. Compliance with good production practices (GMP), safety standards, and approval from regulatory agencies like the FDA, EMA, or others depending on the region further affect production cost and procurement strategies for omeprazole.

Raw Material for Omeprazole Production

According to the Omeprazole production plant project report, the major raw materials for Omeprazole production include 2-(Lithium methyl sulphinyl)-5-Methoxy-1H Benzimidazole and 2-Chloro-3,5-Dimethyl-4-Methoxy Pyridine.

Production Process of Omeprazole

The extensive Omeprazole production cost report consists of the following industrial production process:

  • Production from 2,3,5-Trimethylpyridine N-Oxide: This method of production involves the use of 2-(Lithium methyl sulphinyl)-5-methoxy-1H benzimidazole and 2-chloro-3,5-dimethyl-4-methoxy pyridine as the starting material for the synthesis of omeprazole as the final product. The synthesis begins with the chemical reaction of 2-(Lithium methyl sulphinyl)-5-methoxy-1H benzimidazole with 2-chloro-3,5-dimethyl-4-methoxy pyridine to give a sulphide intermediate. Further, the obtained sulphide intermediate is treated with m-CPBA (meta-Chloroperoxybenzoic acid), which results in the formation of omeprazole as the final product.

Omeprazole is a white to off-white, hygroscopic crystalline solid with a melting point of 156.2–157.2°C. It has the molecular formula C17H19N3O3S and a molecular weight of 345.42 g/mol. The compound is soluble in DMSO, ethanol, and water but is acid-labile and degrades rapidly in acidic environments. Omeprazole exists as a racemic mixture of (R)- and (S)-enantiomers, with the (S)-enantiomer (esomeprazole) being more pharmacologically active due to slower metabolism. It has a moderate lipophilicity with a LogP of 0.6. The compound is photosensitive and degrades upon exposure to light. Moreover, omeprazole contains a benzimidazole ring and a pyridine ring linked by a sulfinyl group, which is crucial for its mechanism of action as a proton pump inhibitor.
