Its melting and boiling point is at 165°C and 390°C, respectively. It is a sensitive chemical crystal with a flash point of 227°C. It is extremely sensitive and remains unstable in the presence of moisture. However, it is chemically stable under normal conditions in a dry environment. Its density is 1.54 g/cm3 under a standard temperature of 25 °C. It goes through hydrolysis when dissolved in water to give trimellitic acid. It is highly soluble in chemical solvents, including acetone, cyclohexanone, and ethyl acetate. Also, it is soluble in compounds including 2-butane, dimethyl formamide DMF, etc. It decomposes on heating at an elevated temperature emitting acrid smoke in the air.
