Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing a Trioxsalen production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Trioxsalen production, including the cost of Trioxsalen production, Trioxsalen plant cost, Trioxsalen production costs, and the overall Trioxsalen production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating a Trioxsalen production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Trioxsalen is a medication that belongs to a group called psoralens, which makes the skin more sensitive to a specific type of light known as UVA. It helps doctors to use controlled light therapy called PUVA to treat stubborn skin conditions more effectively. It is used in vitiligo by stimulating dormant pigment cells called melanocytes to produce colour and gradually repigment white patches on the skin.

It requires several months of combined oral or topical application with UVA exposure sessions a few times a week. It is utilised in psoriasis as it slows the overactive growth of skin cells that cause thick, red, scaly plaques, leading to smoother skin after consistent treatment. It also helps to manage problems like severe seborrhoea or ichthyosis when other standard creams or ointments fail.

The market growth of Trioxsalen is fuelled by increasing vitiligo and psoriasis cases. The higher skin disorder awareness and rising demand for effective PUVA phototherapy options boost its demand. The ageing population and expanding dermatology services in developing markets contribute to its growth. The advancements in safer topical formulations, integration into cosmeceuticals for skin rejuvenation, and research into photodynamic therapy expand its applications.

The industrial Trioxsalen procurement is influenced by the availability of API suppliers with GMP, USDMF and CEP certifications, reliable quality documentation, and competitive pricing. Factors like stable supply chains, regulatory compliance for tenders, formulation stability for lotions and tablets, and local production preferences impact its sourcing strategies.

Raw Material for Trioxsalen Production

According to the Trioxsalen production plant project report, the key raw materials used in the production of Trioxsalen include 2-methylresorcinol and ethyl acetoacetate.

Production Process of Trioxsalen

The extensive Trioxsalen production cost report consists of the following major industrial production process:

  1. From 2-methylresorcinol and ethyl acetoacetate: The production of Trioxsalen starts with the Pechmann condensation of ethyl acetoacetate and 2-methylresorcinol in concentrated sulfuric acid to form 7-hydroxy-4,8-dimethylcoumarin. This is allylated using allyl bromide and potassium carbonate in refluxing acetone to yield 7-allyloxy-4,8-dimethylcoumarin. This undergoes Claisen rearrangement by heating in alcohol to give 6-allyl-7-hydroxy-4,8-dimethylcoumarin, followed by acetylation with acetic anhydride and sodium acetate to produce 7-acetoxy-6-allyl-4,8-dimethylcoumarin. The allyl group is then dibrominated with bromine in chloroform, and the resulting product undergoes base-catalysed cyclisation with sodium in dry ethanol. It is poured into acidified ice water, washed, dried, and purified by fractional crystallisation to get pure Trioxsalen as the final product.

Trioxsalen appears as a white to slightly beige or light yellow crystalline powder. It has a molecular formula of C14H12O3 and a molecular weight of 228.24-228.25 g/mol. It has a melting point of 229-236 degree Celsius and a density of around 1.22-1.236 g/cm³. It has a refractive index of 1.5557 with very low water solubility but good solubility in DMSO and chloroform. It has a LogP value of 2.95-3.46, which makes it moderately lipophilic. It has a polar surface area of 39.4 Ų, and requires storage at -20 degree Celsius. It features no hydrogen bond donors, three acceptors, zero rotatable bonds, three rings, pKa (strongest basic) near -2.8. It has a boiling point of 310 degree Celsius, and fluorescence emission at 445 nm.
