Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing a Vedolizumab production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Vedolizumab production, including the cost of Vedolizumab production, Vedolizumab plant cost, Vedolizumab production costs, and the overall Vedolizumab production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating a Vedolizumab production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Vedolizumab is a targeted biologic drug that blocks a specific protein on immune cells. This prevents them from entering the gut and causing inflammation there while sparing the rest of the body's immune system for better safety. It is used for adults with moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn's disease (CD) who don't respond to steroids, immunosuppressants, or TNF inhibitors like infliximab. It promotes gut healing on endoscopy, reduces steroid dependence, and has usage in immunotherapy-related colitis or pouchitis.

It promotes endoscopic healing, enables corticosteroid-free status, and serves as a gut-selective option for long-term management up to 7 years. Its common side effects include cold-like symptoms (nasopharyngitis, sore throat, cough), headache, joint pain (arthralgia), nausea, and fever.

The market for Vedolizumab is driven by rising inflammatory bowel disease cases. The rise in diet changes, urbanisation, and better diagnostics, mainly in ageing populations, contributes to its market growth. Its usage as a gut-selective biologic offers stronger remission, fewer systemic infections than broader therapies, and convenient subcutaneous options that boost its demand. The industrial Vedolizumab procurement is affected by high costs and failure of prior biologics.

The rebates and budget models influence formulary and biosimilars from other manufacturers, affecting their sourcing. Also, factors like reliance on production sites and API partners, cold-chain needs, geopolitical risks from concentrated sources, and sustainability impact its market dynamics.

Raw Material for Vedolizumab Production

According to the Vedolizumab production plant project report, the key raw materials used in the production of Vedolizumab include Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) Cells, New Cell Culture Media, New Gene Vector, Chromatography Resins and Membranes-Buffers-Salts.

Production Process of Vedolizumab

The extensive Vedolizumab production cost report consists of the following major industrial production process:

  1. From Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) Cells: The production process of Vedolizumab uses Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells from a new master cell bank (MCB) and working cell bank (WCB) made with a different host cell line and gene-expression vector.  The cells are grown in new culture media through expansion and production steps in bioreactors. These are then harvested and purified the antibody using chromatography steps to obtain Vedolizumab as the final product.

Vedolizumab is a recombinant humanised IgG1 monoclonal antibody glycoprotein produced in CHO cells. It has a molecular weight of about 147 kDa and an empirical protein formula of roughly C6528H10072N1732O2042S42. It is composed of two kappa light chains and two heavy chains linked by disulfide bonds, forming the typical Y shaped immunoglobulin structure. It is formulated as a white to off white lyophilised powder for intravenous injection that is reconstituted to a clear to slightly opalescent, colourless to light brown solution at a pH of around 6–6.5. It is a large, hydrophilic protein with negligible renal clearance. It remains largely confined to the vascular and interstitial space. It is not expected to bind non-specifically to plasma proteins and is catabolised by ubiquitous proteolytic pathways to peptides and amino acids with a terminal half life of roughly 20–25 days.
