Stay updated with the latest anhydrous ammonia prices, historical data, and tailored regional analysis
Anhydrous ammonia prices followed a firm upward trend in Q1’26 due to supply disruption, feedstock pressure, and stable fertilizer demand. In Asia, the trend strengthened as Middle East cargo availability tightened, with nearly 315,000 metric tons per month of liquid ammonia shipments normally moving through Hormuz and almost one-fifth of global supply affected, which raised freight risk and limited import availability. In Europe, the market also moved upward as natural gas volatility reduced local production competitiveness, leading to lower operating rates and tighter regional availability. The region remained exposed to seaborne supply risks, as about one-third of the global seaborne fertilizer trade passes through Hormuz. In North America, the trend remained firm but comparatively steadier because domestic supply was stronger, though spring planting demand and global nitrogen tightness supported buying activity.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, the anhydrous ammonia market is likely to stay firm if shipping risks and gas cost pressure continue, while smoother Middle East flows may limit further gains.

Anhydrous Ammonia prices in 2025 recorded a mixed trend in the major regions of the world. In Asia, i.e., China and India, the market started the year with a sharp decline in prices. The primary reasons for this decline were oversupply and low demand from both agricultural and industrial segments. In the first quarter, the prices fell as a result of new supply and low farm demand, as it was the off-season. In the second quarter, the prices somewhat leveled out as a result of pre-season stocking for kharif crops.
During the third quarter, prices in Asia continued their gradual increase. Indian markets recorded consistent up moves due to demand for fertilizers during the kharif season. Chinese markets were volatile due to maintenance issues. During the fourth quarter, prices continued their increase, especially in India, due to the Rabi season. Chinese markets recorded supply constraints in the middle of the quarter, mainly due to environmental inspections and maintenance. However, prices increased moderately towards the year-end.
In Europe and North America, prices recorded similar movements. Prices were low in the beginning due to oversupply. However, in the middle of the year, supply constraints were recorded, which increased prices. Prices were stable towards the year-end, with occasional price movements being absorbed by production adjustments.
Anhydrous ammonia is a colorless gas with a sharp, pungent odor, widely used primarily as a high-nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture. Chemically represented as NH3, it is ammonia in its purest form, containing no water. This makes it extremely efficient and concentrated as a nitrogen source for crop production. Additionally, due to its thermodynamic properties, anhydrous ammonia is also employed as a refrigerant in industrial cooling systems, and in the chemical industry to produce plastics, explosives, and other chemicals.
