Through the first half of 2026, anthracene prices traced a broadly range-bound to firm path, recovering some of the softness seen earlier. Comfortable coal tar supply kept cost pressure subdued, though intermittent tightness in coke-oven output lent occasional support and prevented any pronounced slide. Asian material, anchored by Chinese and Indian output, stayed competitively priced and set the tone for export availability, while European supply held a firmer premium amid leaner output and steadier pull from dye and pigment makers, and North American prices moved largely in sympathy with imported offers. Downstream, anthraquinone and dye-intermediate offtake remained the principal source of demand, with the emerging electronics-grade segment adding thin, quality-driven interest.

During the first quarter of the year 2024 as well, the market behavior exhibited similarities for anthracene and coal tar. Coal production has seen impressive increments in recent times. In India, the stockpiles surpassed 43 million tonnes; this resulted in a turndown of external cost pressure. The import volumes also took a hit. Concurrently, given this feedstock supply surplus, anthracene also felt the pressure. Suppliers started discounting the prices in order to sustain the product movement volumes. Some demand upticks momentarily pushed the prices up. However, the overall market sentiments remained downward, wavering for anthracene for the most part.
