Asia

Benzoyl chloride prices in Asia exhibited a mixed trajectory during the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting divergent trends across key markets. In China, prices experienced notable volatility as toluene, a primary feedstock, witnessed a gradual decline early in the quarter before recovering mid-quarter and weakening again toward year-end. Downstream demand from pharmaceutical intermediates, dye manufacturing, and benzoyl peroxide production remained subdued, with buyers largely adhering to need-based procurement strategies.

Refineries adjusted pricing multiple times in response to shifting supply-demand conditions, limiting sustained price momentum. In India, benzoyl chloride prices displayed initial stability before trending upward during the latter part of the quarter. Improved demand fundamentals from the agrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors, coupled with tighter regional feedstock supply, supported price appreciation. The herbicide manufacturing segment maintained steady consumption, while perfumery and cosmetic chemical applications contributed incremental demand. Producers consolidated gains toward the end of the quarter as downstream purchasing remained cautious despite firmer pricing levels.

Europe

European benzoyl chloride prices experienced initial strengthening followed by a gradual softening trend during the quarter. Early-quarter price appreciation was supported by tighter toluene availability, which temporarily elevated production costs. However, this upward momentum proved short-lived as feedstock supply normalized and downstream demand from chemical and pharmaceutical applications weakened amid broader industrial softness.

The dye and pigment manufacturing sector reduced offtake volumes, while benzoyl peroxide demand for polymer and cosmetic applications remained steady but insufficient to sustain elevated pricing. Market sentiment turned cautious as end-user consumption patterns reflected restrained purchasing activity throughout the latter part of the quarter.

North America

North American benzoyl chloride prices followed a pattern of initial softness, mid-quarter recovery, and renewed weakness toward year-end. Toluene cost dynamics influenced production economics, while refinery operations maintained consistent output levels throughout the period. Demand from pharmaceutical synthesis, agrochemical formulations, and plasticizer applications followed seasonal consumption patterns.

The benzoyl peroxide segment sustained moderate off-take for polymer curing and personal care applications. Downstream buyers maintained conservative inventory positions, limiting speculative purchasing activity as market conditions remained balanced but cautious.

About Benzoyl Chloride

Benzoyl chloride is a colorless or pale-yellow liquid with a pungent odor. Pharmaceutical, plastics, dye, and fragrance industries all use benzoyl chloride as a reactive chemical intermediary. Its acyl chloride group gives it its reactivity, which enables it to react with other substances and make it an important ingredient in the synthesis of a variety of goods.

Benzoyl Chloride Production Processes

  • Benzoyl Chloride Production from benzoyl alcohol

In the first step benzoyl alcohol is added in the solution of fuming concentrated hydrochloric acid. The reaction is refluxed and cooled at room temperature. A separatory funnel is used to separate the top layer of benzyl chloride after which it is rinsed with supersaturated sodium chloride solution to yield pure benzyl chloride.
