In Europe, tensions impacted the supply of raw materials due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas crisis, leading to a rapid decline in bronopol inventory levels and a substantial incline in its price trend. Bronopol prices registered an oscillating run in H2 2022, based on the prices of its feedstocks such as bromine, nitric acid, and caustic soda (NaOH). During the initial months of H2, the Bronopol prices kept high attributing to the industrial shutdown in China and supply chain tribulations.

But soon these high prices led to demand destruction hampering the price trend for Bronopol. Even when the trade and transport restrictions stabilized, no significant impact was seen on the prices. Consumer demand too didn’t support the market dynamics. Global inflation also had a role to play in dampened demands.

Europe

With a major conflict in its background, Europe suffered an economic backlash leading to an acute energy crisis which gave rise to runaway inflation. Prices of all commodities rose to astounding levels. Initially, the prices of Bronopol increased given the supply disruptions, sufficient demand, and temporary industrial shutdowns. But soon these high prices affected the buyer’s confidence in the market further dampening the demand. Hence, due to the falling demand the price trend for Bronopol shifted towards the negative side of the scale.

Bronopol Price Trend For the First Half of 2022

Bronopol is industrially obtained via the reaction of sodium hydroxide, calcium chloride, nitromethane, and liquid bromine. During the first quarter, the price of feedstock NaOH exhibited an upwards trend averaging 517 USD/MT FOB Qingdao. Similarly, the prices of feedstock bromine (8876 USD/MT FOB Qingdao ) and nitric acid followed in a similar manner. These high prices owing to the surging crude oil prices, caused the price trend for Bronopol to strengthen in the domestic market.

The bronopol prices registered an oscillating trend in the second quarter. While feedstock NaOH and nitric acid prices increased due to the increased demand from the fertilizer industry, the prices of bromine suffered. Also, the cautious buying attitude of buyers caused the price trend of bronopol to dip slightly; however, it stabilized towards the end of the said quarter.

Europe

The European market exhibited a similar price trend for Bronopol compared to its Asian counterpart. The price of feedstock NaOH ( 711 USD/MT FOB Hamburg)  and nitric acid (420 USD/MT FOB Hamburg) remained strong in the first half, whereas the prices of bromine suffered.

North America

The prices of Bronopol remained anchored in the US domestic market owing to the surging feedstock costs and robust demand from the downstream pharmaceutical industries. The price of feedstock NaOH averaged 626 USD/MT while that of nitric acid averaged 350 USD/MT FOB New York.
