During the first quarter of 2024, the chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) market in Asia was characterized as moderate. Buyers had the advantage since the prices sustained a borderline stagnancy, indicating stable cost and profit margins. In the upstream outlooks, the polyethylene prices surged, which pushed the costs up slightly; concurrently, chlorine’s market was more or less stable. Therefore, chlorinated polyethylene’s price performance improved in the said quarter. However, consumer response in Asian markets did not meet expectations.
The prices of CPE in India were influenced marginally by rising production and crude oil costs. In China, impending capacity expansions are expected to further strengthen the supply dynamic in the region. Asia is likely to dominate global chlorinated polyethylene production, with the market remaining relatively stable overall during the period under consideration.
Europe
The pricing outlook for chlorinated polyethylene was not much different from the Asian markets. However, the demand outlooks were struggling more here. The industrial activity in the region was trembling attributed to the supply chain hindrances and ongoing uncertainties in the political scenarios. This kept the downstream demands restricted. The rise in economic inflation and energy costs pushed the manufacturing costs up. However, a humble demand outlook kept the prices contained for the majority of said period.
North America
In contrast with the Asian and European markets the American chlorinated polyethylene market performance was more on the weaker side during the first quarter of 2024. Despite spikes in crude oil prices, trade uncertainties at global levels dampened demand, exacerbated by inflated inventories. Even with occasional temporary upticks, the market sentiments remained meek for the majority of the said period.
