Asia
In Asia, EDTMP prices showed a firm trend during the second half of 2025. The market was supported by strong demand from the fertilizer sector, particularly in India and China, where phosphorus acid based fertilizers were important for crop production. In India, importers continued to secure phosphorus acid supplies despite recent price hikes, keeping demand for EDTMP stable. China’s phosphorus acid exports increased significantly, while domestic phosphate ore imports declined slightly, creating a tighter supply balance. Rising feedstock costs, including sulfur and high-grade phosphate rock, also contributed to the firmness of EDTMP prices.
Europe
In Europe, EDTMP prices fluctuated moderately in H2’25. While overall supply was sufficient, limited upstream production of phosphorus acid and high sulfur costs put pressure on producers’ margins. Fertilizer manufacturers maintained steady procurement, though uncertainty over shipping timelines and raw material availability caused some short-term price movements. Export activity from North African and Middle Eastern suppliers remained selective, which kept spot market prices firm. European buyers remained cautious, balancing inventory needs with cost concerns, leading to a slightly bullish trend overall.
North America
In North America, EDTMP prices were stable but showed mild upward pressure. Domestic phosphate production faced supply shortfalls due to weather-related disruptions and lower imports, leading to tighter availability. Farmers’ demand for phosphorus based fertilizers remained steady, especially for fall application, which encouraged importers and distributors to secure supplies in advance. Despite higher feedstock and raw material costs, prices did not spike significantly because of careful inventory management and long-term contracts.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, EDTMP prices are expected to remain firm in the near term, supported by continued phosphorus acid demand and supply constraints, while fluctuations may occur due to raw material costs and overall global uncertainties.

Asia
In the first half of 2025, the EDTMP (Ethylenediamine Tetramethylene Phosphonic Acid) market in Asia showed mixed movement. In countries like China and India, pricing was influenced by the trends in upstream chemicals such as EDA and Yellow Phosphorus. In China, while EDA prices dipped early due to slow construction and automotive demand, recovery by March helped stabilize EDTMP costs.
The tight supply of Yellow Phosphorus from plant maintenance also put some upward pressure on production costs. In India, despite consistent demand from water treatment and detergent sectors, EDTMP prices remained relatively steady. However, cheaper EDA imports and an ongoing anti-dumping investigation created uncertainty in the supply chain, prompting cautious buying behaviour from downstream users.
Europe
In Europe, EDTMP prices moved slightly upward during H1’25. The market was affected by high energy costs and logistics issues, including port congestion and low water levels in key rivers, which disrupted the movement of raw materials. Rising input costs, particularly from Yellow Phosphorus and EDA, led producers to adjust prices gradually.
While the construction and cleaning sectors showed steady demand for EDTMP, suppliers remained conservative due to concerns over volatile raw material pricing and production expenses. Despite these pressures, consistent downstream activity helped maintain a healthy market balance.
North America
In North America, EDTMP pricing followed a stable to firm trend in the first half of the year. Supply limitations caused by weather disruptions and unplanned shutdowns early in Q1 affected upstream EDA availability, which contributed to a slightly bullish sentiment.
Meanwhile, demand for EDTMP from sectors like water treatment, cleaning products, and industrial formulations remained healthy. Although Yellow Phosphorus prices saw only modest shifts, elevated transportation and raw material costs supported the steady price movement of EDTMP in the region.
Ethylenediamine Tetra (Methylene Phosphonic Acid) or EDTMP is a phosphonic acid that appears as a white crystalline powder at room temperature. It comes with its unique chelating and anti-corrosion properties. This phosphonate product provides optimum solutions for a wide range of industrial applications, ranging from use in detergents and cleaning agents to water treatment in general. It has a high dispersing power for ceramic slurries in building materials.

In this process, a similar route to that of Mannich type reaction is utilised. Phosphorous acid, ethylenediamine and formaldehyde react in the presence of HCL and the resulting mixture is heated and purified to finally obtain EDTMP.
