Asia
During the first half of 2025, EVOH prices in Asia moved mostly sideways with a slightly bearish tone. Market conditions remained weak due to sluggish demand from the packaging and food preservation sectors. Feedstock ethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) costs also remained soft, which limited any upward pressure on production costs.
Additionally, high inventory levels and a lack of strong restocking activity kept suppliers cautious. Although there were minor supply disruptions from maintenance in some regional EVA plants, the overall supply was sufficient to meet demand. Trading activity stayed dull as buyers avoided bulk purchases, waiting for clearer signals in market recovery.
Europe
In Europe, EVOH prices showed a moderate rebound in March, mainly due to feedstock tightness and lower EVA production. Supply disruptions and rising EVA prices caused a temporary imbalance, which pushed EVOH values higher. Before this, prices had remained relatively stable amid weak demand from packaging and automotive sectors. The market was also influenced by the structural challenges in the ethylene supply chain, along with limited contract renewals and downstream demand uncertainty. By late Q2, the earlier supply concerns had eased slightly, helping stabilize prices once again. Overall, the European EVOH market in H1’25 experienced a short-lived price surge in March but remained under general pressure.
North America
In North America, EVOH prices saw a mixed trend during the first half of 2025. The market was initially steady in February, with low demand due to seasonal slowdown in the packaging sector. However, prices began rising in March as the US government imposed new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. This led to increased buyer activity, with traders securing supply in anticipation of cost hikes and supply chain disruptions. Feedstock EVA prices also went up, adding to production costs and supporting higher EVOH prices. Despite the weak downstream demand, proactive buying and trade policy uncertainty helped lift the market temporarily during Q2.
