About Fluorosilicone Rubber

Fluorosilicone Rubber is a specialty silicone elastomer modified with fluorinated side groups, mainly trifluoropropyl groups. It combines the temperature flexibility of silicone rubber with improved resistance to fuels, oils, solvents, and non-polar fluids. Fluorosilicone rubber performs well across low and high temperatures and is widely used where sealing parts face aggressive fluids and changing thermal conditions. Its properties make it suitable for aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, industrial, and electrical applications.

Production Process

Fluorosilicone Rubber Production by Ring-Opening Polymerization of Fluorinated Cyclic Siloxanes: Fluorosilicone Rubber is manufactured through ring-opening polymerization of fluoroalkyl-containing cyclic siloxane monomers. The process commonly uses fluorinated cyclic siloxanes, such as trifluoropropyl methyl cyclic siloxane, along with small amounts of vinyl-containing siloxane monomers to introduce curing sites. Polymerization is carried out under controlled conditions using alkaline or other suitable catalysts. The resulting fluorosilicone gum is then neutralized, devolatilized, purified, and compounded with reinforcing fillers, curing agents, pigments, stabilizers, and processing aids.

Industrial Uses

Fluorosilicone Rubber is used in O-rings, gaskets, seals, diaphragms, fuel-system seals, aerospace seals, oil-resistant sealing parts, automotive engine components, molded rubber parts, hose liners, valve components, shaft seals, connector seals, aircraft fuel system components, and industrial sealing applications exposed to fuels, oils, lubricants, and solvents.
