Asia
In H1’25, the PAN market in Asia remained unstable, marked by fluctuating feedstock prices and subdued downstream demand. Prices rose slightly in January due to pre-holiday stockpiling ahead of the Lunar New Year but quickly fell as demand weakened and inventories piled up.
The first quarter ended with a clear downtrend due to soft demand in sectors like textiles and NBR. Moving into Q2, the market remained oversupplied, with no significant recovery in demand. Production rates were generally steady, but low consumption and ample inventories kept prices under pressure. Even as feedstock costs became more favorable, weak buying interest and global economic uncertainties prevented any significant price rebound.
Europe
In Europe, PAN prices during the first half of 2025 followed a mixed but generally firming trend. Early in the year, weak demand, high inflation, and logistical disruptions weighed on the market. Feedstock Acrylonitrile remained available, but rising costs and regional port issues created inefficiencies. As Q2 began, prices gained momentum due to constrained imports and improved automotive demand.
The supply side remained tight, with strikes and transportation delays limiting product flow. While the construction sector in some countries remained sluggish, steady consumption from technical fibre applications supported market balance. By the end of H1, prices had stabilized at higher levels compared to the beginning of the year.
North America
Throughout the first half of 2025, the Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) market in North America experienced fluctuating price trends driven by raw material costs, weather disruptions, and shifting demand patterns. Prices began the year on a soft note, influenced by seasonal slowdowns and lower production rates in January. The availability of feedstock Acrylonitrile was impacted by winter storms and supply chain delays, leading to short-term tightness. By February, prices climbed sharply due to rising propylene costs and geopolitical tensions affecting supply.
The automotive sector provided consistent demand support, especially for NBR applications, while construction activity remained mixed due to high costs and labor shortages. In the second quarter, the market saw a gradual recovery. As manufacturing activity improved and post-winter demand normalized, PAN prices stabilized. The upcoming shutdown of a key production facility also fueled concerns about future supply, adding upward pressure to prices.
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is a synthetic, semicrystalline organic polymer resin. Despite being thermoplastic, it does not melt when exposed to ordinary temperatures. It deteriorates prior to melting. If the heating rates are 50 degrees or more per minute, it melts above 300 y.
The majority of polyacrylonitrile resins are copolymers with acrylonitrile serving as the primary monomer in a mixture of monomers. It is a multifunctional polymer that is used to make a wide range of products, such as ultra-filtration membranes, hollow fibres for reverse osmosis, fibres for textiles, oxidised flame retardant fibres like PANOX, and carbon fibre. High-quality carbon fiber's chemical forerunner is PAN fibre.

The procedure involves polymerizing acrylonitrile with the co-monomer methyl acrylate to create polyacrylonitrile, a material that may be spun into fibre using wet spinning.
