Polyester (DTY) prices in China followed a fluctuating trajectory during the second half of 2025. The prices were about 1137 USD/MT (Spot FD) in July and around 1123 USD/MT in December. In the early part of the period, prices declined from their opening levels as production-to-sales ratios remained subdued and inventory levels rose among manufacturers. Cost support from upstream petrochemical inputs was limited, providing little upward momentum. However, a turnaround emerged as downstream users engaged in concentrated restocking, improving downstream demand and prompting manufacturers to reduce discounts and selectively raise quotations.
As the period progressed into the traditional peak season, demand expectations provided a degree of market confidence. Leading manufacturers coordinated production cuts to ease supply pressure, while rising crude oil and PTA costs gave factories greater justification to push prices higher. Despite these supportive conditions, demand recovery fell short of expectations. Downstream weaving enterprises maintained cautious procurement, and elevated grey fabric inventories at mills continued to weigh on buying activity. Toward year-end, prices softened again as order completions outpaced new demand, though a modest recovery emerged in the final weeks as restocking activity gradually resumed and raw material costs stabilized.
