Asia

Asian urea formaldehyde powder markets began H1’26 softly as weak wood-panel demand limited resin purchasing. Conditions changed sharply in March when Iran-related Middle Eastern disruptions restricted methanol availability and complicated regional logistics, raising freight and replacement costs. Methanol subsequently became the main cost driver for formaldehyde and UF resin producers. Chinese formaldehyde output was reduced later as poor margins pressured producers, while abundant urea availability prevented a broader raw-material shortage. Restricted methanol imports continued supporting costs during parts of Q2. By late June, however, methanol and formaldehyde softened as supply conditions improved, while cautious wood-panel purchasing pushed UF powder conditions lower.

Europe

European UF powder markets experienced their strongest cost pressure during March as disrupted Middle Eastern methanol flows tightened availability and increased logistical uncertainty. Methanol buyers increased spot and contractual procurement as concerns around regional supply routes encouraged inventory building. Urea costs also strengthened during the disruption, exposing UF producers simultaneously to higher costs across both major feedstock chains. However, weak construction activity restricted demand from particleboard, MDF, furniture and interior applications, preventing full cost pass-through. As supply-chain pressure gradually eased, the market moved toward greater stability later in H1.

North America

North American UF powder markets also strengthened during March as Iran-related disruptions lifted methanol costs and increased concern over international supply logistics. The regional impact was comparatively moderate because North American methanol production remained relatively healthy. Producers therefore faced less severe feedstock scarcity than Europe and parts of Asia. Demand weakened later as residential construction slowed, reducing consumption from plywood, cabinetry, furniture and engineered wood products.

According to Procurement Resource, UF powder prices are expected to remain stable to slightly soft as logistical pressure eases, feedstock availability improves and wood-product demand remains cautious.
