In Q1’25, the global Zirconium Dioxide market showed a largely stable to slightly positive price trend, supported by steady demand and manageable supply conditions. The quarter began with some pricing pressure due to leftover inventory and soft demand in certain downstream sectors like ceramics and construction. However, as the months progressed, key end-use industries such as automotive, electronics, and infrastructure showed signs of recovery, especially in Asia and parts of Europe. This helped balance the market and provided mild upward momentum.
Manufacturing activity improved post-holiday season in Asia, while in Europe, logistical challenges and a weaker currency pushed up import costs, which also influenced pricing. North America saw steady consumption, mainly driven by automotive applications, though construction activity remained uneven due to high borrowing costs. Supply chains stayed mostly intact across regions, with no major disruptions, allowing producers to meet demand without significant price hikes.
Overall, the market reflected cautious optimism. Prices remained relatively stable with small upward movements in certain regions, supported by a slow but steady recovery in demand.
Outlook
According to Procurement Resource, Zirconium Dioxide prices are expected to remain steady, though trade and inflation-related risks could influence market sentiment going forward.

In the second half of 2024, Zirconium Dioxide prices showed mixed trends across key regions, influenced by varying supply-demand dynamics and sector-specific performance. In North America, prices remained relatively stable through H2, with a slight upward push in Q4 due to recovering demand from the construction and automotive sectors. The availability of material stayed consistent, supported by stable freight costs and healthy domestic production, although inflation and high interest rates curbed growth in some areas.
Meanwhile, in the Asia-Pacific region, prices followed an upward trend by the end of the year. In Q3, supply disruptions and port congestion caused by weather-related issues initially pushed prices higher despite weak demand. However, by Q4, demand began to improve, especially from the automotive and electronics industries, supporting a firmer pricing environment. Government support and stronger factory output helped sustain this recovery.
In Europe, prices declined in Q3 due to weak demand from ceramics and construction, but started to rise in Q4 as industrial activity recovered. Improved logistics and easing energy costs stabilized supply, while ongoing infrastructure investment drove a slow rebound in demand.
Zirconium dioxide is also known as zircona and is naturally present as a white, odorless solid. The compound also has a high melting point along with electrical insulating abilities and remarkable hardness. It can also go through transition toughening, which increases its resistance to fracture. Because of these characteristics, zirconium dioxide is used as an electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cells as well as in dental materials, ceramics, and refractories.

This complex process involves methods like mechanical mixing, multiphase suspension mixing, compacting, grinding, etc. Along with this, the raw materials are heated at elevated temperatures in the controlled availability of oxygen to give zirconium dioxide.
