In the second half of 2024, Zirconium Dioxide prices showed mixed trends across key regions, influenced by varying supply-demand dynamics and sector-specific performance. In North America, prices remained relatively stable through H2, with a slight upward push in Q4 due to recovering demand from the construction and automotive sectors. The availability of material stayed consistent, supported by stable freight costs and healthy domestic production, although inflation and high interest rates curbed growth in some areas.

Meanwhile, in the Asia-Pacific region, prices followed an upward trend by the end of the year. In Q3, supply disruptions and port congestion caused by weather-related issues initially pushed prices higher despite weak demand. However, by Q4, demand began to improve, especially from the automotive and electronics industries, supporting a firmer pricing environment. Government support and stronger factory output helped sustain this recovery.

In Europe, prices declined in Q3 due to weak demand from ceramics and construction, but started to rise in Q4 as industrial activity recovered. Improved logistics and easing energy costs stabilized supply, while ongoing infrastructure investment drove a slow rebound in demand.

About Zirconium Dioxide

Zirconium dioxide is also known as zircona and is naturally present as a white, odorless solid. The compound also has a high melting point along with electrical insulating abilities and remarkable hardness. It can also go through transition toughening, which increases its resistance to fracture. Because of these characteristics, zirconium dioxide is used as an electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cells as well as in dental materials, ceramics, and refractories.
