Propane is formed as a byproduct of natural gas processing. In this process, the raw and wet natural gas from natural gas and crude oil wells is pressurized and cooled in the plant. Ethane, propane, regular butane, isobutane, and natural gasoline are among the heavier hydrocarbons that become liquids and separate from the natural gas stream. The liquid is further refined and separated using a fractionator into purity products.
