This report provides an extensive cost evaluation of producing Tungsten Carbide from Ammonium Paratungstate (APT). In this method, ammonium paratungstate (APT) serves as the starting material for the process of synthesizing tungsten carbide as the product. The synthesis begins with the calcination of ammonium paratungstate, which involves heating it in the presence of air at a temperature ranging from 500-800°C to generate tungsten oxide. Further, the tungsten oxide (WO3) obtained from the calcination of APT is subjected to reduction by using hydrogen gas at high temperatures to form tungsten metal. Then, the obtained metallic tungsten undergoes carburization, using carbon black as a C source, which results in the formation of tungsten carbide as the final product.
