Evonik has announced the successful trial production from a second polyamides reactor at its Shanghai site. The company stated that this achievement paves the way for it to double its production capacity for long-chain polyamides in Asia, thereby strengthening its market-leading position in high-performance polymers.
A senior executive explained that the project marked a significant step in expanding their high-performance polyamides capacity in China. The investment was described as a reflection of the company's confidence in the Chinese market, enabling it to better meet growing local demand for these advanced materials from industries such as automotive and consumer goods.
These high-performance polyamides are critical materials used in innovative, lightweight automotive components, thermal management systems for new energy vehicles and energy storage, and various premium consumer goods. Driven by steady market growth, the project will also increase the local production of other high-performance polymers, including specific types of polyamides and elastomers which are widely used in automotive tubing, monofilaments, and athletic footwear.
Another senior executive added that this latest investment was based on their expectation of attractive growth in demand for long-chain polyamides, driven by multiple applications. He stated that the new capacity would enhance the resilience of their global supply chain, allowing the company to respond more quickly and flexibly to customer needs across the Asia-Pacific region with superior and innovative solutions.
