Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing a Dichloropropene production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Dichloropropene production, including the cost of Dichloropropene production, Dichloropropene plant cost, Dichloropropene production costs, and the overall Dichloropropene production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating a Dichloropropene production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Dichloropropene, mainly in the form of 1,3-dichloropropene, is used industrially as a soil fumigant to control nematodes and soil-borne pests. It is used to protect crops such as fruits, vegetables, and tobacco. It also functions as an effective solvent that can replace acetone, toluene, and benzene, with applications in paint, varnish, ink production, and cleaning processes for metals, leather, and textiles. It is also used in the extraction of oil and paraffin and the purification of gasoline. Additionally, 1,3-dichloropropene functions as an important chemical intermediate in synthesising other organic compounds.

The market for dichloropropene is driven by the increasing demand for effective soil fumigants in agriculture to control nematodes and other soil pests, which enhances crop yields and food security. Government initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and ensuring food security also propel market growth. Additionally, technological advancements in fumigation methods and increasing awareness of sustainable pest management practices support the market expansion.

The emphasis on sustainable farming and environmental regulations also contributes to the market demand by encouraging the development of more efficient and eco-friendly fumigants. The growing global population and rising food demand create continuous opportunities for expanding dichloropropene use in agriculture. Industrial dichloropropene procurement is influenced by the costs and availability of the major raw materials such as propylene and chlorine. Furthermore, transportation and storage considerations due to the flammability, toxicity, and volatility of dichloropropene necessitating specialised handling, which in turn impacts the overall procurement.

Raw Material for Dichloropropene Production

According to the Dichloropropene production plant project report, the various raw materials for Dichloropropene production include propylene- chlorine.

Production Process of Dichloropropene

The extensive Dichloropropene production cost report consists of the following major industrial production process:

  1. Production via high-temperature chlorination of propylene: The production process of dichloropropene starts with the reaction of propylene with chlorine gas at high temperatures (around 500-550 degree Celsius). This reaction produces allyl chloride as the main product and a mixture of byproducts, including 1,3-dichloropropene and other polychlorinated propanes and propenes. After allyl chloride is distilled off, the remaining still-bottom fraction contains the 1,3-dichloropropene mixture. This mixture is then subjected to selective chlorination or bromination of the olefin components to maximise 1,3-dichloropropene yield, followed by fractional distillation to separate and purify the cis and trans isomers.

Properties of Dichloropropene

Dichloropropene, primarily 1,3-dichloropropene, is a colourless to straw-coloured liquid with a sharp, sweet, and chloroform-like odour. It has a boiling point in the range of 104–112 degree Celsius (219–226 degree Fahrenheit) and a melting point near -119 degree Celsius (-84.5 degree Fahrenheit). The compound is denser than water with a specific gravity of 1.2 and is insoluble or very poorly soluble in water. It has a vapour pressure of 28 mmHg at room temperature, and its vapours are heavier than air, which means it tends to sink. The flash point of 1,3-dichloropropene is 95 degree Fahrenheit (35 degree Celsius), indicating it is flammable. Its vapour density compared to air is roughly 3.8. The compound has explosive limits in air from about 5.3% to 14.5% concentration by volume.
